Prof. Doris YK Law is a veteran language education researcher who, prior to her retirement, served as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education and the Head of the Division of Chinese Language and Literature at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). She holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma in Education, and a Master of Philosophy from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), as well as a PhD from HKU. Her instructional expertise spans research methods, reading theory and practice, Chinese language assessment, curriculum and evaluation, and Chinese language education for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). Dr. Law's extensive research portfolio covers the Chinese reading process, reading motivation, reading strategy instruction, assessment, collaborative learning, Classical Chinese pedagogy, picture book instruction, and the professional growth of Chinese teachers.
She has published over forty peer-reviewed papers and research reports across journals and books in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA. Her prominent book publications include Fiction, Culture, and Hong Kong: A "Book-Based" Deep-Level Comprehensive Language Skills Instructional Curriculum (《小說•文化•香港：「以書為本」深層次語文綜合能力教學計劃》), New Approach for Chinese Language Teaching: Learning and Assessment (《香港中國語文課程新路向：學習與評估》), Return to Learning to Learn: Promoting Secondary School Students' Ability of Reading Complex Texts for the Understanding of Chinese Culture in Hong Kong (《有文有道：回歸學會學習、從文本到能力，從能力到文化的學與教設計》), Close and Extensive Reading of Rich Language: Learning and Teaching of Great Classical Chinese Literary Works (《閱覽英華：文言經典語言和篇章的學與教》), and Understanding the Author’s Intended Meanings: Reading Theories and Practices of Instruction in Learning Literary Chinese (《閱我深意：文言作品學與教的理論與實踐》). Between 2009 and 2016, Dr. Law spearheaded three major data-driven projects to enhance reading ability, motivation, and comprehension strategies, which successfully pioneered the interactive curricula "Deeply Touched by Reading", "Deep Meanings in Reading", and "Deep Reflections in Reading" across primary and secondary school networks.
