Prof. LAM Wai Ip (林葦葉) is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), specializing in the Academic Unit of Language and Literacy Education. Highly regarded for her expertise in literacy and comparative education assessments, she serves as the co-Project Leader for the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2025 in Hong Kong and has extensively led the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) projects for Hong Kong across multiple cycles (2001, 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021). She has been actively involved in projects supporting NCS students' Chinese language learning at secondary, primary and kindergarten levels. She has led University-School Support Programmes "Supporting kindergartens in the Teaching and Learning of Chinese for Non-Chinese Speaking" (2012-15) and "Effective Student Transition: Facilitating the Learning of the Chinese Language of Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) kindergarten (K.3) Students in the Transition to Primary School" (2015-17). Starting from 2016, she became one of the co-PIs of "C-for-Chinese@JC" (Phase 1: 2016 -2019) Project embracing a home­ school-community model to enhance the Chinese proficiency of non-Chinese speaking kindergarten students for their better transition to primary education and early integration. She was the team leader and instructor of a series of “Learning & Teaching for Non-Chinese Speaking Students - Professional Development Programme for Kindergarten Teachers” since 2017 until now.
